About cast iron teapots

Cast iron teapots known as "tetsubin" were used in Japan for hundreds of years, and they are worldwide still part of the Japanese tea ceremonies .

Why Cast Iron? Cast iron absorbs heat evenly, ensuring that the water steadily becomes hot. With the tea leaves floating in the water, this gradual, even heating infuses the greatest amount of tea flavor into the water. Not only do you get more of the flavor, but the nutrients that provide the health benefits of green tea and black tea are also infused into the water thanks to the even heating.

Not only does the cast iron teapot heat up the tea better, but they retain warmth much more effectively than ceramic or clay. A good cast iron teapot can keep your tea nice and hot for up to an hour.

The final reason to use a cast iron teapot: it's much more durable. It is strong and will not break.

You'll find that a cast iron teapot, when properly cared for, will last you a lifetime! After each use, allow the teapot to cool completely before cleaning. Rinse and gently clean pot, cover and infuse thoroughly with warm water only. Do not use soaps or detergents. Wipe the outside dry with a clean cloth while the pot is still warm. Invert the pot to air dry before replacing infuser and lid. Avoid contact with salt and oils.
